Tinsel, Sackville’s Talking Christmas Tree

Edited to update information for 2019

Back “in the day” local children visited Woody the Talking Christmas Tree at the mall. I remember going…you’d wait in line and watch him talk to other children until it was finally your turn. You’d stand in front of a mirror and gaze up at Woody, waaaaay up high. He’d maybe comment on your festive outfit or your bright smile and listen thoughtfully to your Christmas wish. It was pure Christmas magic.

Until he lumbered off somewhere and was no more.

Sackville filled the talking tree void left by Woody a few years ago with Tinsel. He puts on a fun animatronic twenty minute show with sing-a-longs and storytelling that the children adore.

Edited for 2019: This year he will be a travelling tree and be in Beaver Bank, Springfield Lake, and Lower Sackville. His shows start November 29 and run for just a few days in each location so read on so you don’t miss his visit this year!

The Kinsman Club of Sackville and Councillor Brad Johns are responsible for this little bit of Christmas magic and it’s FREE so all children can enjoy spending time with Tinsel.

The event is a fundraiser for Beacon House so the organizers request, if you can, to please bring a food or monetary donation for admission. When the shows for the year are complete, they pass along all of the donations to Beacon House: “The Mission of Beacon House is to provide food, clothing and programs for those in need in our community in a caring and compassionate manner.”

Note: The Lower Sackville shows are held in Acadia Hall at 650 Sackville Drive, right next to the library and another amazing Sackville playground (an inclusive one) so if it’s a nice day you can double up your visit with a trip to the playground and the library.

From their website, here are the 2019 show times:

Please note that the shows start on the half hour and are twenty minutes long. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the show.

  1. We love tinsel!!
I mean as a 30 year old I still miss Woody but I appreciate how close to home Tinsel is and my son loved him last year so I guess he will be the ‘new woody’ for the younger generation;)
