Nova Scotia Children’s Fashion Guide Featuring Seven Local Makers

Nova Scotia, Canada is full of incredibly talented children's clothing designers and producers. Here are seven amazing options!Nova Scotia, Canada is full of incredibly talented children's clothing designers and producers. Here are seven amazing options!

Thank you to the local businesses named below who sponsored this post. We only partner with businesses that we believe bring value and enjoyment to Halifax families. If you’d like to talk about working together, please contact us. As always, all opinions are our own.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no fashionista . . . but my kids? My daughter was born with a love of fancy and twirly clothes and has been “striking poses” in the mirror in outfits since she could walk. Even my son, who usually lives in sweats and tees, likes to occasionally put on his “handsome clothes” and strut around.  No doubt about it, mini fashion is a lot of fun and for me, as a parent, it makes it even more appealing when the clothing makers put thought, care, function AND style into their designs – and when they’re local? Even more amazing!

Did you know there are businesses in Nova Scotia who create gorgeous clothes out of beautiful soft organic fabrics, design completely recyclable clothing (FROM recycled content), make apparel that adjusts for your kids getting bigger, share their proceeds to feed the less fortunate around the world, and build knee pads right into their cute pants for busy kids? I was thrilled to discover so many innovative and eco-conscious – yet still stylish – apparel for kids being developed right here in our home province.

I’ve loved working on this guide and learning about all of these businesses and I am excited to share seven of them with you today.

I’m also launching an onsite resource directory for children’s fashion (and soon to be many more categories!), linked at the end of this post, so if you’re a Nova Scotia based clothing designer/producer, and you’d like to be included in it, please contact me and I’ll get your listing up ASAP!

I’ve included a short description and photo of each business, along with a shout-out to an item or two from each business that particularly caught my eye. I’m curious if you loved the same ones I did, or if something else stole your heart! Take a read through and pop over to each of their websites to browse around and then come back and let me know your favourites in the comments or on social media. I am sure you’ll be delighted with all of the options!

Money Penny’s biggest design asset is that their clothing adjusts in size! Subtle adjustable features are hidden in plain sight whether it’s straps, multiple button options or a rolled cuff. Their product ‘grows’ with your child, allowing you to get a lot more wear out of it.

For the items that do not physically adjust, they have been specially designed to have plenty of growing room. Additionally, their products are comfortable. They use the highest quality natural fabrics like cotton, linen and organic chambray. Not only is using natural materials better for the environment, their products are comfy to play in!

Itsy Bitsy Crush: Tie between the Willow Pompom Bunny dress and The Alice in Woodland Creature dress. My girl would adore both of these!
