UPDATE (Jan. 31): The in-person event has been cancelled at the park due to the impending storm. Sam will still be making a prediction on social media.
Groundhog Day is always February 2 but this year it falls on a Sunday which is great for families with school-age kids! (especially those who have kids who wake up at the crack of dawn on weekends lol)
Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park is hosting their annual celebration and, being only about an hour outside of the city, it makes a perfect day trip option this weekend.
The fun kicks off when the doors open at 7 a.m. with free admission to the park until noon. They also have free hot drinks and face-painting.
At 8 a.m. the big event happens when Shubenacadie Sam will come out to see if he can see his shadow and let us know how much winter he predicts we have left!
The rest of the park will open at 8:15 a.m. and stays open until 3:00 p.m. that day (winter hours).
Make sure you plan to stop into the Wetland Centre too which will have interactive displays for World Wetland Day. They’ll be open from 7 a.m. -12 p.m. that day.
If you want to learn some fun Groundhog facts and jokes to prepare for your visit, be sure to check out this post where we round up a bunch of groundhog fun for you (plus the links to the webcam is included there as well if you can’t make it in person).
Don’t forget to plan a stop at their awesome playground on the way out (remember, playgrounds are just as fun in the snow as they are in the sun!).
Happy Groundhog Day!
